Do you teach vowel teams?
Phonics vowel teams can be tricky for students to grasp in reading and spelling. Let’s talk about tips for teaching long E vowel teams.
This week we are introducing our first vowel teams EA and EE. I like to start my creating an anchor chart with my students. While we make our class chart, the students make their own chart to take home.
We follow the Orton Gillingham method during our phonics instruction.
Let's talk about the vowel team EA...
The EA like in “sea”.
We go over many words with the EA vowel team. I show the kiddos that this vowel team usually will be at the beginning or middle of the word.
Some example words…
eat
cheap
seat
meal
beneath
treat
Let's talk about the vowel team EE...
The EE like in “see”.
We go over many words with the EE vowel team. We talk about how usually the double e will be found in the middle and end of words.
Some example words…
meet
sheep
deep
three
creek
